How to complain to the State's plumbing and contractor licensing departments.

Before sending your complaint make sure it falls within the jurisdiction of the contractor licensing department or board. You can check what kinds of complaints are typically investigated by the state contractor licensing authorities here.

Nebraska:
There is no state licensing for contractors (except electrical) in Nebraska. There is local licensing in counties with populations over 100,000.
File a complaint regarding your plumber or other contractor with The Nebraska Attorney General's Office.

Nevada:
File your complaint with Nevada State Contractor Board.

New Hampshire:
Complain to the New Hampshire Department of Safety, Division of Fire Safety, Bureau of Building Safety and Construction.

New Jersey:
Division of Consumer Affairs of New Jersey Office of the Attorney General has links to all the Professional and Occupational Licensing Boards Complaint Forms.

New Mexico:
The Construction Industries Division of the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department investigates complaints against contractors.

New York:
File your contractor complaint with the Regional Offices of the New York State Attorney General or with your county or city contractor licensing departments.

North Carolina:
Complain about your plumber to NC State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors.
About electrical contractor complain to the North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors.
General contractors: For questions concerning complaints or to request a complaint form, please call the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors Violations & Complaints Section.

North Dakota:
File your contractor complaint with the Office of North Dakota Attorney General or contact Board of Plumbing, or Electrical Board, or Licensing Unit of the Secretary of State.

Ohio:
File your Ohio electrical, HVAC, hydronics, plumbing, and refrigeration contractor complaints with the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board (OCILB).
You may also complain to your city/town Building Department

Oklahoma:
You may complain about electrician, plumber, mechanical or roofing contractor to the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board. Or file your complaint with the Oklahoma Office of Attorney General.

Oregon:
You may complain about contractor to The Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB) Dispute Resolution Services (DRS) .
You can also file your complaint with the Oregon Department of Justice.

Pennsylvania:
You can file your complaint with the office of Pennsylvania Attorney General.

Rhode Island:
For a fee of $25 you can file a claim with the State of Rhode Island Contractors' Registration and Licensing Board. Or file your complaint for free with the State of Rhode Island Attorney General office.

South Carolina:
A complaint against a residential contractor (including electrical, HVAC, and plumbing) may be made to the Office of Investigations and Enforcement (OIE) of the South Carolina Division of Professional and Occupational Licensing Boards (POL).

South Dakota:
About your plumber complain to South Dakota Plumbing Commission. About electrical contractor complain to South Dakota Electrical Commission.

Tennessee.
File a contractor complaint with the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors (home improvement, electrical, and plumbing).

Texas:
About a plumber in Texas you can complain to The Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners.
About electrician, HVAC contractor, etc, you can complain to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Utah:
You can file a complaint on plumber or electrician with the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL).

Vermont:
You may try Vermont Attorney General's Consumer Assistance Program.

Virginia:
File a complaint on plumbing, HVAC, or electrical contractor with the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.
In certain cases, you may be eligible to receive funds under the Virginia Contractor/Real Estate Transaction Recovery Acts.

Washington:
Complain to the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.

West Virginia:
You can file a Request for Investigation on a complaint with West Virginia Division of Labor.

Complain to the Division of Industry Services of the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services or to the Bureau of Consumer Protection at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

Wyoming:
All contractors, except electrical, are licensed at the local (city or county) level. Complain to the Consumer Protection Unit of the Wyoming Attorney General office.
