Comment: David Kennedy General Contractors Unlimited in Bedford Indiana job of a second story screened in porch addition to our home. Upon receipt of a $4,000.00 + deposit we were promised the job to begin in 4 weeks from the payment while he ordered the trusses for the project. The date came and went without any contact from David Kennedy General Contractors Unlimited Bedford Indiana. After three phone calls were never returned he picked up the phone on the fourth on an early Saturday morning. He claimed at that point that he was going to get the trusses in making a very lame excuse for not contacting us. He did not claim that the order was late or anything else on the order of the trusses which lead us to believe that he didn't even have them ordered yet. He claimed one more week. Once again, we never heard from in two weeks. We phoned a few more times over a few more weeks. Finally he said the next Monday. We did not hear from him or that he would be late (at any point in time) but did indeed show up later than the day promised. Actually I was about to get on the phone to contact our lawyer to get our deposit back and have someone else do the work when he showed up. Talk about timing. He evidently miscalculated the placement as part of a two story enclosed deck bi-sected our kitchen window instead of running off the side of it. He pointed out that he would place a flower box there for us. Since the two story uprights and deck proper was in, he couldn't move it without tearing it all out. To be nice we agreed to the flower box as long as we were able to reach it easily. He readily agreed. Remember this is a two story deck. He placed the enclosed portion on the deck proper and staircase. When I asked how he had planned on us reaching the flower box the answer was, "a ladder". I said that my wife is in her 60's and I have bad arthritis in my knees and we were not going to climb a ladder to get to the flower box and that we thought he was going to make it reachable from the deck proper via a removable portion or access door. His reply was, "That's going to cost you more." Remember, this was from his mistake to begin with and we were gracious enough to work with his error. Also the screens to the deck are not removable or in frames which is how every screened in enclosed deck or porch I've ever seen in my 55 years has been. But the screens are stapled in. So it will be up to me to install frames, which is how it should have been done by a professional to begin with. My error for not explaining what we felt was the obvious. He completed the job (with no flower box access mind you) and all that was left to do was to run the gutters around the project which was part of the contract and estimate. He requested payment saying, "I'll have my gutter guy out here next week to finish with the gutters." Against my better judgement I paid him for the job thinking, who in their right mind would leave this uncompleted. Any water damage done is going to cost him more than getting out here to complete the job. Well, it's been over 4 weeks and several phone calls and our gutters are not on and we already have 1' hole from the water run off near our basement foundation. I am continuing to try to get him to complete the work with another week of calls. After that I'm afraid that we must file a legal complaint against David Kennedy of General Contractors Unlimited of Bedford Indiana. While the deck looks nice, the quality is about 2 1/2 on a scale of 1-5. So this has been, and continues to be, a very unpleasant experience. Very unprofessional and very poor business ethic.
