Job description: Remodel master bath & carpet home

Comment: The original contract amount was $12602 and we paid $14736. We contracted with Carlos Bustos to remodel our master bath by tearing out all cultured marble and installing Silestone countertops, adding tile on the walls & rock design on the floor and frameless glass around the shower, carpet two bedrooms downstairs and the upstairs (approx. 2000 sq ft) as well as some updates to the laundry room. Per the contract, the work was to be completed within two weeks. The work began the first week of June and ended the last week of August when we paid for the carpet he walked out on the job. We have attempted to reach out to him by phone and certified mail to no avail. As of December 1, 2015, we are still in limbo regarding the countertop replacement that he promised to rectify. We did reach out to Silestone to see about warranty on their product but after investigation, they determined that Mr. Bustos was at fault.
The quality of work done on our project by Mr. Bustos? subcontractors ranged from very good to abysmally poor. On more than one occasion the higher-quality workmanship was ruined by a subsequent contractor not taking appropriate precautions to protect previous work. The job was inadequately supervised. Mr. Bustos was working on another project in Arlington and we did not feel we were a priority. Days would go by without any communication requiring us to initiate discussions on the continuation of our project.
Examples of issues include:
Silestone countertop damaged during fabrication (has yet to be replaced despite assurances by Mr. Bustos).
Improper covering on the shower floor resulted in a circular stain
Grout around shower cracked
Electrical outlets improperly installed (homeowner repaired)
Towel bars improperly installed (homeowner repaired)
Wall texture applied in laundry but left unpainted
Countertop in laundry left unsealed
Bathroom was never cleaned prior to carpet installation (homeowner cleaned wall texture off cabinetry and mirrors ? paint still inside recessed lighting fixtures)
We cannot recommend Carlos Bustos as a general contractor. We feel he is not reliable nor can he be trusted to do the job he agreed to do. He agreed to fix issues regarding his completed work and those issues have yet to be rectified. If you have any questions, you can contact us at: (email hidden by JTP).

Comment: By his own last invoice he owed me $732.50 out of the 50% deposit of 3957.50. I would have settled and he didn't bother paying that. I have since filed a small claims against him and won $3,482.50. Of course he has never paid but another person who found me and also had issues with Carlos is pursuing him through legal means. He is untrsutworthy and does poor work too.
